Creativity is an important part of a kid's life.
Studies have shown that creativity teaches problem solving skills, allows children to develop confidence in their abilities, and reduces stress.
Having a creative outlet and focus allows kids to decompress. And that increases happiness. As they paint their flower or mold their animal, they're making something tangible. That tangible result floods the brain with dopamine, which is a key part in helping them focus, strive, and find things interesting.
Creativity makes stronger learners too. Being creative allows kids chances to find solutions, judge, analyze, evaluate, compare, and contrast - without even knowing that they're doing these things. And of course, as they practice these skills, they learn to fine-tune them and use them in all areas of school and their lives.
At the end of a long week, it can feel unbearable to pull out the paints and playdough. But here's the thing. Everyone benefits when you do it. Happier, calmer kids make for happier, calmer caregivers and happier, calmer families.
In my 30-45 minute discussion, we'll talk about the importance of creativity and how it really can make a difference in your family's life. Then, as adults, we'll do a quick creativity exercise together - and you'll leave high on dopamine and ready to take on the world. :)
